Kurohyou, the last descendant of Akki, traveled through the forest. Akki was one of the first panther youkais of the mainland. However, Kurohyou wasn't a youkai, she was a hanyou and she looked it very much. Her black panther tail and ears is what gave her blood away. She stood at average height and had moon pale skin. Demon marks adorned her body, all black except the one mark beneath her left eye which was green. Her eyes were narrow and cat like, shinning like two of the brightest emeralds with thin black slits as pupils. Her hair was long and wavy, as black as the darkest night shadow. A single lock of her hair was violet; it was braided neatly and held together by a silver clasp with panther markings decorating the silver.
The panther hanyou stopped near a clearing and smiled slightly. There was a good feeling about this place. Her bright gaze was directed toward a large tree with a scar embedded in its trunk. This place feels very warm. I think I'll set camp here for the night. She set her bear skin sack down and gathered some wood, starting a fire. She pulled out some preserved meat and slipped the pieces on a stick, and leaned the broken limb between two rocks near the fire to cook. She sighed as she watched the flames, her mind traveling to her past.
-Flashback-
There were seven panther hanyou cubs and a panther youkai. All of them had brown eyes save the two youngest. The older of the two had bright golden eyes and the youngest had even brighter green eyes. The two were playing and wrestling when their mother, the youkai, told them it was time for their first hunting lesson.
All the cubs changed into small baby panthers and followed their mother out. The two youngest ones still played with each other roughly. The green-eyed one fell into a thicket and the second laughed and ran ahead, yelling for her to catch up. The youngest was trapped in the branches of the bush, though.
The panther cub struggled to untangle herself from the bush, gnawing at the branches. Her mother's screech echoed through the forest, followed by shouts and the screams of her siblings. Her struggles become more fierce in an attempt to reach her family.
Finally the little one freed herself and ran to her family. She stopped, seeing corpses around her. All of them her families. Her mother looked the worst; her body was torn and mangled. The cubs had quick slits along their throats or a stab through their hearts. She saw four slayers ahead, drenched in her family's blood and walking away.
The cub could not remember what happened. She stood above the slayers' corpses. She turned and ran as fast as she could, somehow able to hear her family's voices calling out to her. Later that evening she heard her brother's voice. It was your fault. We were alive but you left us. The small hanyou shook her head, silent tears rolling down her cheeks.
-End Flashback-
Kuro pulled herself from the memories and rubbed her arm slowly.
''I was so young....how was I suppose to know?'' She muttered aloud. She sighed and slowly began to eat her food, watching the flames reflect in her silver clasp. Her eyes were distant and sorrowful.
She looked back at the fire, seeing her brother again. Dai.....I'm sorry..... She thought and sighed heavily, her breath forming in the air. She closed her eyes and continued to chew her food slowly.
Kuro took another bite of her meat and continued to stare into the flames, wondering why these memories returned to her in such a rush. She looked at the silver clasp and studied the markings along it. One for each family member. She looked at her brother's mark and traced it with her sharp nail.
A sound pulled her from her thoughts. She caught the scent of another and growled, dropping her food on the ground and slowly standing, claws flexed. The hanyou sniffed the air, trying to tell if it was friend or foe that approached. There were so many smells around her now that she couldn't tell. And her mind was clouded with memories she did not wish to hear. A low growl escaped her as she waited for this unknown visitor to reveal him/herself.
